ARTWORKS 2020 - Carlow Arts Festival

Carlow Arts Festival 2019 celebrates its 40th anniversary with a special performace of Sleep by Max Richter. The festival provides opportunities for everyone to enjoy the arts by providing a programme that is 80% free.

ARTWORKS 2020 deadline extended to April 17

Even though Carlow Arts Festival 2020 will not go ahead, we are working with VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art and The George Bernard Shaw Theatre to make sure that this year's #ARTWORKS exhibition & #ArtAward will happen.

We have extended the submission deadline to April 17

This year’s ARTWORKS Open Submission invites artists to submit work that takes up the theme of #climate and our natural environment.

The exhibition will be titled The Sky is Blue, taking inspiration from John Tyndall, the eccentric Carlow Scientist who discovered why the sky was blue. Tyndall is understood to be one of the founders of climate science. 2020 marks the bicentennial of his birth in Leighlinbridge, Carlow.

Artists are invited to submit their work in any medium for selection. The 2020 exhibition will be presented in VISUAL Centre for Contemporary Art and The George Bernard Shaw Theatre’s ground floor galleries (dates TBC). All artists selected will receive an artist’s fee.

There will be two cash-prize awards for outstanding work presented.
