It has certainly been a week of lows & highs. The low being the RTE Primetime Investigates programme last Wednesday. The high being the Irish 1-2-3 in the final of the Star Sports, Arc & LPS English Greyhound Derby on Saturday night, led home by the Bryan & Kathleen Murphy owned and Paul Hennessy trained Priceless Blake. Needless to say RTE Sports failed to give any mention to the latter, a further indication of how unbalanced our so called ‘National’ broadcaster has become. On this week’s Sporting Press our editor DJ Histon addresses the Primetime programme on Page 2 and the IGB do likewise on Page 4. Mark Sullivan, Jason Craddock & Paul Cooney bring us all the news from the English Derby Final at Nottingham on Pages 54,55 & 56. Joe Horan, successful in the recent Barrys Tea 750 at Curraheen Park with Maireads Pearl is placed ‘On The Spot’, Frank Kieran also includes Maireads Pearl in his weekly breeding column whilst Charlie Blanning takes a look back at the early days of greyhound track racing in the USA including the world’s first greyhound track built on the edge of San Francisco and the first Greyhound Derby (held in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1921).
