Threshold Ireland

Today, we called for the extension of Rent Pressure zones to cover the entire country

In Carlingford, people are paying an average €279 a month more in rent today that when RPZs were first introduced in Cork and Dublin back in December 2016.

People renting in areas such as Limerick City North are paying an average of €168 more a month in rent since April of last year. That is over an additional €2,000 a year which is broadly equivalent to a month’s wages to someone on an average income.

But in Kerry, where people are renting in for example Killarney, monthly rents have increased by an estimated €1,224 a year. This is a substantial amount of money that cannot be spent on essential items, school uniforms and books etc.
